The research area of the laboratory (Department of Bioengineering/Laboratory of Physics and Agrophysics) covers the main two topics:
- the use of spectroscopic methods as the management tool for monitoring both terrestrial and aquatic environment regarding to properties of organic matter compounds;
- the biological characterization and adaptation of crop plants to changing environmental conditions under abiotic stress: salinity, water deficit, irradiation of UV-B and interaction of these factors as multistress.
The area of competence of the team covers a broad spectrum of vacuum-plasma surface treatments of metals and alloys, thin film deposition and research on their structure, mechanical and tribological properties and corrosion resistance.
We have long-standing experience in plasma nitriding with an active screen (ASPN), the deposition of wear-resistant coatings on tools by reactive magnetron sputtering and vacuum arc evaporation. In particular, our experience relates to coatings on woodworking tools.
Along with the origin of the Koszalin University of Technology (TUK) in 1974, the Department of Structural Mechanics (DSM) initiated its activity in the frameworks of the team of academic-wide departments. Scientific investigations were taken soon after the completing of works connected with the organization of educational process and the main directions of research activities were formulated and were constantly augmented. The DSM is the structured within the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Environment and Geodesy.

Scientific specialisation is spatial policy. The department conducts research into the economic, legal, environmental and urban conditions of spatial policy. spatial policy tools (e.g. spatial development plans) are studied and evaluated. Particular emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary determination of spatial policy objectives, and the implementation of these objectives in legal acts (at the national, regional and local levels). The Chair also works on comparing spatial planning systems in different countries.
