The research fields of the Department cover i.a.:
- design and analysis of transport and logistics systems;
- transport means operation;
- risk identification and analysis within transport processes;
- reliability assessment of technical systems;
- development of reloading systems concepts;
- technical, economic and organizational aspects of transport functioning, etc.
Members of the Department conduct the research activity and publish the results of scientific achievements in national and international journals, obtain patent protection for developed inventions. Department employee participate in national and international research projects. Department possesses the Laboratory of Logistic Research and Analyses, and Laboratory of Transport Engineering CAD. These laboratories are equipped with specialized software used in students education and research activity.

The offered expertise includes:
- operation of land and waterborne transport modes;
- development of integrated transport systems;
- sustainability in logistics and supply chain management;
- elaboration of innovative techniques and technologies in transport;
- evaluation and analysis of transport safety and risk management;
- city logistics improvement;
- transport efficiency analysis for cargo (including containerized, oversize, sensitive loads), etc.
Members of the Department have an expertise in collecting and analysing the research data using different methods appropriate to widely understood area of transport and logistics. Department staff is qualified in preparation of conceptual design of innovative solutions due to the set requirements, as well as provide consulting activity related to mentioned research fields.

The group is interested in cooperation in:
- conducting the research activity related to transport and logistics subject area;
- participation in joint European and international projects and programmes;
- innovative solutions and technologies development in transport;
- applying for joint patent protection for developed inventions;
- implementation of joint research results in companies;
- improvement of education programs in the field of transport and logistics;
- publishing achieved joint research results in national and international journals, as well as presenting them during international conferences, etc.

Previous international projects:
- TRAIN LNG - Training new competencies in LNG for cross-border growth, Interreg South Baltic, 2017.
- RTF - Using ferry real time information to optimize intermodal transport chains, Interreg Baltic Sea Region, 2018-2020.
Department has wide research experience in the field of transport operation and logistics.
