The activity of the Centre for Measurement of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Wood Materials (CMPMPWM) is focused on research and searching for new solutions to develop innovative products and technologies related to the production of wood based  products. The operation of the CMPMPWM is focused on in-depth research and analysis related to manufacturing and translating this into scientific knowledge and applying this knowledge to manufacturing operations.  The CMPMPWM activities focus on measurement, modelling and construction, i.e. on methods that are the basis for Industry 4.0,
CMPMPWM offers research services for both domestic and foreign entities on the same conditions. The Centre is oriented towards cooperation with companies in the wood and furniture industry in the West Pomeranian Voivodship and in Poland.

Research conducted within the CMPMPWM are directed at manufacturing processes and processing of raw materials and wood materials as well as optimization of machine and product designs using the tools and technologies of Industry 4.0, in which, in addition to measurement, control and execution systems integrated by modern data exchange technologies, it is necessary to know how to combine data (data mining), process self-awareness and self-optimization.
The expertise offered includes:
- embedded systems;
- algorithms for soft sensors;
- application of artificial intelligence algorithms (fuzzy sets, neural networks) to control, monitor and fuse data;
- production and processing of wood based materials;
- optimal (energy efficient) control strategies;
- automation and robotics;
- methods of material quality monitoring based on digital image processing (computer vision);
- methods of water content and water activity measurement during material drying or storage.
- application of big data processing techniques.

The research and development infrastructure at the CMPMPWM enables research for industry and implementation of research results. The research and application experience of the Centre's employees enables cooperation in the following areas in:
- optimisation of dimensions of geometric wood structures,
- determination of strength parameters and fatigue analysis of wooden structures
- analysis of the influence of technological process parameters on the mechanical and physical properties of wood-based panels
- analysis of the influence of recycled materials on mechanical and physical properties of wood-based panels
- optimisation of material composition of wood-based boards taking recycled materials and wood waste into account.
