The Institute of Physical Culture Sciences has been operating within the new structure of the University of Szczecin since 2019. It has the right to confer a doctoral degree in the discipline of physical education. It cooperates with the Faculty of Health and Physical Education, creates a modern model of physical culture, educates professional specialists and contributes to the development of research in the field of medical sciences and health sciences.
Centre for Human Structural and Functional Research (CHSFR), operating within the Institute, consists of well-equipped scientific laboratories: biochemical, genetics, kinesiological and physiological. Laboratories within CHSFR are focused on studying human motion in all its aspects.

The offered expertise includes:
• thermovision, anthropometric and biomechanical methods for morphofunctional assessment
• evaluation of structural and functional changes in the human motor system,
• analysis of movement biomechanics and kinematic parameters,
• process of long-term adaptation to physical effort,
• evaluation of genetic determinants of sports talents, risk of injury and the genetic background of the range of responses after training, speed of regeneration after training,
• estimation of the metabolic background of physical activity and the development of metabolic and hormonal disorders,
• assessment of biochemical metabolic fatigue in sports,
• role of physical activity in etiology, prevention and treatment of civilization diseases,
• perception, decision-making and effector mechanisms that determine the effectiveness of motor behaviour,
• evaluation of the health behaviours and quality of life,
• research on participation in physical activity,
• development of strategies for sport and recreation,
• identification of social aspects of physical activity, history of sport.

The group is interested in cooperation in:
• biological determinants of health and physical activity,
• human movement in terms of health and physical fitness,
• immunology, biochemistry and molecular biology of physical effort,
• sport genetics, i.e. genetic background of soft tissue injury, response to exercise and training as well as the genetic basis of inter-individual variation in training recovery,
• sensorimotor processes in athletes,
• infrared thermal imaging of non-training people and people subjected to physical exercise,
• the role of physical activity in health prophylaxis,
• the determinants of obesity in children.

Additional information (e.g. previous experience in Framework Programmes, experience related to innovation projects, prizes, participation in international organisations): Central European Journal of Sport Sciences and Medicine (CEJSSM) is an open access scientific quarterly journal. CEJSSM publishes original research papers on the topics including but not limited to the following: exercise physiology, sports nutrition, sports medicine, sports rehabilitation, physical activity, public health, health promotion.
