The research team is in charge of designing and producing of functional carbons from renewable precursors tailored for adsorption of gases, contaminants from water, energy storage, catalysis.
The biobased functional carbons played important role in renewable feedstocks' valorisation and are promising and sustainable sorbents and catalysts or catalyst supports for new technologies especially producing value-added products. The utilisation of these renewable feedstock’s and waste streams gives the avenues to realise sustainable synthesis through green process and design for a sustainable future.
Our teams member are specialists in various techniques for solid materials characterization, adsorption and catalysis.

The expertise offered includes:
- synthesis of functional carbons from every precursor, especially from renewable precursors, by chemical and physical activation;
- tailoring the properties of carbonaceous materials for the particular applications, for example for adsorption, catalysis, energy storage;
- making SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) and TEM (Transmission Electron Microscopy) images and analysing them;
-elemental analysis using EDX (Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy), ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma) and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) methods
- XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy) measurements and analysis of the results;
- UV-Vis (Ultraviolet–Visible Spectroscopy) and FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis;
- N2 adsorption at 77 K measurements and full interpretation of the results (specific surface area, total pore volume, micropore volume, pore size distribution etc.);
- adsorption of various gases at different temperatures up to 50 bar;
- investigations of various catalytic processes;
- gas cleaning.

The group is interested in cooperation in:
- synthesis of carbonaceous materials for various applications (adsorption catalysis, energy storage etc.);
- solid materials characterization (SEM, TEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, ICP, XRF, UV-Vis, FTIR, N2 adsorption at 77 K);
- sorption measurements of gases using volumetric method (different gases, temperatures and pressures) and mathematical modelling (models with two and more than two parameters) of the adsorption thermodynamic;
- conducting catalytic processes and mathematical modelling of the reaction kinetics (reaction order, rate constant, activation energy).
