The research team is involved in studying antioxidant properties of plants, edible oils, cosmetic raw materials and final cosmetic preparations. Moreover, in vitro penetration through human and/or animal skin of active substances contained in plant raw materials is also evaluated. The research team has authored 7 patent applications at the Polish Patent Office related to new biocidal preparations, analytical methods and new cosmetic substances with antioxidant properties. Up to now, 8 new intermediate products to prepare of cosmetic emulsions have been developed. Members of scientific team have published many papers on antioxidants, skin penetration of synthetized compounds or isolated from plants. The unit is equipped with a liquid chromatograph, a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, and a Franz apparatus used to evaluate penetration of substances through the skin or artificial membranes.

The expertise offered includes:
- Determination of antioxidative properties of plant raw materials.
- Determination of antioxidative properties of fats, lipophilic preparations, cosmetic raw materials and final cosmetic preparations (in accordance with the methodology described in the patent obtained by our scientific team).
- Preparation of plant extracts with high antioxidant potential.
- Formation of cosmetic emulsions with high antioxidant potential.
- Determination of active substances in plant material or cosmetic products by liquid chromatography.
- Evaluation of the penetration of active substances (natural or synthetic) of cosmetic and dermatological products through human and porcine skin or synthetic membranes using the Franz diffusion cell (estimation of cumulative mass at different time intervals, determination of the rate of permeation of compounds either through human and animal skin or synthetic membranes).
- Statistical analysis of the results of the above-mentioned studies using frequently used statistical tests such as one-way ANOVA, Tuckey test, Wilcoxon test, Mann Whitney test, cluster analysis.

The group is interested in cooperation in:
- Cooperation on enhancing of the antioxidant potential of cosmetic and pharmaceutical raw materials or intermediate products.
- Analysis of cosmetic preparations to evaluate their antioxidative potential and to increase this potential.
- Modification of finished cosmetic raw materials with natural antioxidants, including raw materials in solid form.
- Searching for plant material with high antioxidative potential and optimization of active ingredients isolation.
- Analysis of the composition of the plant material to search active components to be useful to prepare cosmetic products.
- Evaluation of skin penetration of the important active ingredients contained in cosmetic and dermatological preparations.

Additional information (e.g. previous experience in Framework Programmes, experience related to innovation projects, prizes, participation in international organisations): The research team has carried out the following projects: "Development of significantly improved cosmetic products with enhanced antioxidant properties based on fish collagen" and "Improvement of Sara Cosmetics products by enrichment the composition of 8 product line cosmetics to markedly increase their antioxidant capabilities".
