Scientific investigations were taken soon after the completing of works connected with the organization of educational process and the main directions of research activities were formulated and were constantly augmented. The DSM is the structured within the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Environment and Geodesy. The scientific team of DSM provides courses of Numerical Methods, Computer Aid Design, Structural Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Statics and Dynamics of Structures, Theory of Elasticity and Plasticity. Besides the day to day teaching activities the scientific research team of the DSM is actively contributing to the novel developments which covers the following list of engineering areas: additive manufacturing – prototyping, design, process modelling; mechanics of composite materials; theory of bar, string and shell structures in numerical modelling; strength and construction analysis of innovative civil structures; finite element modelling.
Numerical modelling and CAD capacity of DSM: The DSM has created its own computer laboratory consisting of 10 workstations, printers, Smart Board, scanners, desks, etc. The main software used for scientific purposes is Simula/Abaqus. Independently the DSM’s staff has an access to a faculty’s computer laboratory which is equipped with 40 work stations, printers, scanners, desks, etc. The available engineering softwares are as follows: Abaqus Research License, AutoCad with Civil 3D Module, AutoCad R14, Rodos 6, Robot Millennium, RmWIN, RmWIN 3D, Statistica, Matlab , PC Highway, Integram, and internally developed softwares by the faculty staff.
Laboratory equipment: The laboratory facilities of the DSM is integrated within the Faculty’s laboratory. The laboratory is currently expanding in terms of an infrastructure as well as laboratory equipment. Currently available equipment can be used for (the most relevant): 3D industrial printer for carbon fibre printing; Static tension and compression tests with a load up to 250kN.

The expertise offered includes:
The main area of research consider by the team lead by Prof. Mirosław Wesołowski is static and dynamic analysis of composite structures (laminated and sandwich structures). The main goal of the conducted research is the non-invasive assessment of the mechanical and dynamic properties of the constituent materials included in the composite structure. For this purpose the inverse techniques are used which based on either dynamic and/or static tests.

The group is interested in cooperation in:
- composite structures – modelling and design;
- additive manufacturing process – process design,
- FEM process modelling;
- dynamic testing of materials – vibration tests;
- static testing of composite materials.

Thematic area - Cluster in Horizon Europe: 4.
